Getting started

  1. Open a YouTube watch page with captions and open the extension’s side panel.
  2. Wait for the available transcript to load. Search, copy it, or download TXT.
  3. Choose ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini in Settings.
  4. Click Summarize and grant access to that provider when Chrome asks.
  5. Review the filled prompt in the new chat window and press Send.

Common questions

The transcript does not load

Wait for YouTube to finish loading. Check whether YouTube’s own Show transcript panel displays text, then retry Get full transcript. Captionless videos, live streams, Shorts and embedded players are outside this release. YouTube layout changes can also affect retrieval.

How do I change the language?

Select an available language in YouTube’s own transcript panel, then retrieve the transcript again. Language selection inside the extension is not currently implemented.

The AI message box stays empty

Check the selected provider in Settings and its site permission in Chrome. Sign in if needed. An existing draft will not be overwritten. If automatic insertion fails, paste the copied prompt, or return to the extension to copy or download the transcript.

My AI provider says the message is too long

Provider limits still apply. The extension does not silently shorten your transcript. Download TXT and attach it in the provider’s chat if supported.

Do I need a subscription?

utranscribe does not require a subscription, API key or extension account. Your AI provider may require an account or paid plan for its own features.

How do I delete stored data?

Use Clear session data to remove the cached transcript and pending AI prompts. Uninstalling removes extension storage. Clipboard copies and downloads must be removed separately.
